Full Fontal Pϋppetry: Summer Sellout

Full Fontal Pϋppetry: Summer Sell-Out (June 8-9, 15-16 and July 13-14, 19-20) brings the live action puppet comedy-variety show by Angry Young Men, Ltd., that wacky local troupe of theatre geeks, artisans, mad scientists, and drinkin’ buddies to Soulstice Theatre, 3770 S Pennsylvania Ave in St Francis.

This is the latest round of Full Frontal Pϋppetry, named for their performance style; one part Japanese Bunraku, One part Vaudeville, and one part Splatter Film. The puppeteers appear as shadows behind the characters, and their show is a combination of sketch comedy, musical numbers, political humor, new video material, and fractured poetry. They have been described by the Shepherd Express as “The sort of inspired goofiness that makes Theatre worth going to”, and by author (and living legend) Harlan Ellison as “Enormously witty and engaging”.

This round’s guest host will be Alice Wilson, local performer and founder of the local Silent-film comedy troupe, the M.U.T.E.S. Many familiar puppet characters will be returning, such as the Director Puppet Murray Gauntman, Lumpy the Golem Boy, Joon the Ogre, the inventor Blondie, and musical masochist Sweepea. Alternatively irreverent, rowdy, dark, and sweet, Full Frontal Pϋppetry – Summer Sell-Out should prove to be a theatre experience unlike anything else in Milwaukee.

Formed in 2007 on a dare, Angry Young Men, Ltd. (Who, in their own words, are not particularly angry, not getting any younger, and have several women in the cast) Are best known for Night of the Living Dead – the Puppet Show, and have been performing locally and regionally from night clubs to horror conventions to large theaters, including their annual Halloween blowout at the Oriental Theatre. Troupe members have performed with many local and regional theatre companies, including Soulstice Theatre, Milwaukee Public Theatre, First Stage, Skylight Opera Theatre, and the Bristol Renaissance Faire. Bringing to the stage their vast experience and varied personalities, AYM Ltd offer an absurd, light-hearted, but razor-sharp take on puppetry and comedy that is unexpected, unpredictable, and certainly unique.

Kid-friendly (but not necessarily kid-safe) the show is rated PG-13, for Puppet Gore and an adolescent sense of humor.

Doors open at 7:00PM and the cover charge is $10.
