Issue 15 | June 08 | ... And We're Back

Jenn Turner's picture

If you missed the last splash smiling at you from your inbox, that's because there wasn't one. Most of you will have read on the site or in MKE that Bucketworks had a setback during the week of the storm. We took on a lot of water in the Bucket. Our offices were awash on a sea set forth from a waterfall that appeared along almost the entire north wall. And the Flowspace, as so many have enjoyed pointing out, really lived up to its name. Har, har.

As I mentioned in the MKE article, Bucketworks has had an amazing outpouring of support. From offers of help in the cleanup efforts to organizations opening their doors to us and giving us space to move our events to during the time when we've had to close our doors. We'd like to thank places like Art & Soul Gallery, Cream City Ribbon, and the Boys and Girls Club for their kindnesses.

We know you have a lot of questions, and to that end we've posted an FAQ page that will help you understand what will be going on over the rest of this month. We've also posted a "Wish List". While we certainly need your support in the form of donations, there are also things we will need. Perhaps you have something you'd like to donate instead. We'll also be posting a list of tasks that need doing, how long it will take to do them, and how many "buckets" we'll be willing to award in exchange for your volunteerism.

Over the last 6 years we've done some amazing things and we've rarely asked for help. We believe in Bucketworks. There are so many things we want to do and we need you to help us do that. You can sign up on the site, you can join, you can donate, or you can volunteer. You won't regret your experience and you'll be contributing to the wider community of membership.

One thing we mentioned in the FAQ's that I'd like to point out before I move to the events listings is that while Bucketworks will be re-opening, we will only be opening a part of Bucketworks. Areas like the Cafe and the Flowspace will be under construction as the restoration efforts continue. Thus, we will only be open during events and for our professional members. Unfortunately, all walk-in hours must be suspended until we are able to fully re-open. Not that this is a bad thing. We've been given an opportunity to do some re-organizing and upgrading and we intend to take it.

To that end, would you be interested in volunteering? Many of you offered and now we'd love to take you up on it. We're coordinating 3 teams: a grounds crew, a Fab Lab organization crew, and a Playspace crew. Send me an email if you wish to volunteer your services and we'll coordinate the dates.

So...

What's goin' on around here then, eh?
